Nigerian Equities Reverses Bearish Trend, as NSEASI Gain 0.40%

The equities market reversed its bearish trends, as the NSE-ASI gained +0.40% in today’s trading session. 

Market breadth index ended positive as 23 stocks gained  against 22 stocks that declined. 

CHAMPION (+5.00%) was the market’s best performer, while FLOURMILL (-4.99%) topped the losers’ chart. 

STERLNBANK (+1.01%) was the most actively traded stock with c.34million units of shares worth c.N34m. 

Sector Performance  

·         NSE Oil and Gas Index: Ended positive +2.53%, majorly due to the gain in SEPLAT (+5.00%). 

·        NSE Consumer Goods Index: Gained +0.63%, largely driven by CHAMPION (+5.00%), UNILEVER (+4.52%), HONYFLOUR (+2.38%) and NESTLE (+2.11%). 

·         NSE Industrial Index: Closed up +0.13%, following the gain in DANGCEM (+0.22%). 

·        NSE Banking Index: The gains in GUARANTY (+1.50%), STANBIC (+1.42%), DIAMONDBNK (+1.38%), STERLNBANK (+1.01%) and FIDELITYBK (+0.88%) drove the sector up +0.02%.

The equities market was bullish today, as NSE-ASI closed up +0.40% largely on account of the gains in bellwether stocks across major sectors. Despite the recent sell-off in the market, we maintain our view that it presents a decent entry positions in our recommended names.
